Acupressure Certification – an Overview

Today, there are massage institutes that offer acupressure certification courses as part of their programming. As an Oriental healing art, this particular therapy has been facilitated for many centuries and is known for its natural healing attributes. This is one of the many reasons why acupressure certification programs have begun springing up across the country and around the world.

In an acupressure certification program, students gain in-depth education on the history and philosophies of acupressure, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and the similarities between acupuncture and acupressure. In addition to hands-on training in the therapy itself, students learn anatomy, physiology, basic theories of the Five Elements and the meridian pathways, diagnostic techniques, and pathology.

While no two acupressure certification classes are the same, a number of these vocational programs may include supplemental courses in CPR, first aid, kinesiology, Tai Chi, Qigong and other relative massage techniques. Further studies may entail business management, marketing and communications.

Though there are some acupressure classes that are geared toward introductory education, there is a growing number of healing arts institutes that have begun offering acupressure certification at the National level. Again, depending on the individual school, graduates who qualify may be eligible to take the Asian Bodywork Therapy (ABT) exam that is administered by the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).

Those successfully completing all training requirements through a quality acupressure certification course, and who have passed the ABT exam, become certified as Diplomate of Asian Bodywork Therapy (Dipl. ABT). For the aspiring therapist, it is wise to determine respective State licensure requirements.* (States require a minimum of 300-500 hours of massage therapy training.)

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding acupressure certification courses, let professional training within fast-growing industries like natural healing, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! How to be prepared for the Holidays

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

choking first aid

CPR saves the lives of thousands of Americans every day, and the holiday season is no different. In fact, CPR certification is the top life saver during this time of year! Make sure that you are prepared for the holidays with training in CPR/AED and First Aid techniques!

It is especially important to know CPR during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s for a number of reasons. Primarily, weather conditions can quickly turn from good to bad, causing treacherous travel conditions. If one of your loved ones were to experience cardiac arrest, get the breath knocked out of them, or become injured, emergency medical assistance could be delayed. In winter weather, ambulances could take as long as three hours to reach you, leaving your loved one to struggle for life. However, if you have received CPR training, you could be a life saver! Instead of standing around, feeling helpless as your aunt, uncle, child, or spouse lays limp and breathless, you could literally take their lives into your own hands!

Second, people eat mass amounts of food at a fast pace during the holidays, especially around the family dinner table during the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. They may forget their manners, fail to adhere to proper chewing habits, or attempt to talk with their mouths full. For these and many other reasons, choking hazards are at a heightened level during this time of year. What would you do if someone got a piece of turkey lodged in their windpipe? How would you handle the emergency if your brother or sister failed to chew their stuffing adequately? By taking a course in CPR certification, you will know how to handle the situation, springing into action and saving their lives!

Finally, family gatherings tend to include physical activities, such as impromptu football games between middle-aged, out-of-shape men. Often, these well-meaning individuals wind up hurting themselves or others, creating a need for First Aid treatment. If one of the players gets knocked down too hard, they could get the breath knocked out of them, creating an emergency situation. By knowing CPR/AED or First Aid techniques, you can address the situation quickly and efficiently!

If you have considered taking a CPR course, or if you need to freshen up your skills, there is no better time to do so than now. With the holidays, family gatherings, and icy streets at your back door, it is important to be well prepared for an emergency.

The American Health Care Academy is an online, accredited, certified provider of CPR certification and First Aid courses. The CPR classes allow you to learn at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home with the ability to log in and out. The instructors are also available to speak with you by phone anytime you have questions or need clarification. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to print out your own CPR certification card!

To learn more about the American Health Care Academy, visit their website at:

www.CPRAEDCourse.com

With the holidays right around the corner you can never be too prepared. You want to make sure that you and your loved ones are safe and protected. One way to do this is to be CPR certified.

Looking for Trade Certification? Medication Aide Training is a Must

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

first aid certification

There is no question with regard to trade certification: medication aide, nursing assistant and other health professionals all need it in order to work at their designated fields. Certification basically refers to a vital piece of paper that people in sensitive trades are required to have… and arguably, no trade is more sensitive than working in a medical facility, such as a hospital, a clinic or a pharmacy.

What can you expect from training to get certification? Medication aide aspirants will wonder if they actually need to study medicine in order to quality for training. This is not so. One does not need to have an extensive knowledge of medicine, although this is of course a plus… what is more important for a medication aide, is to develop a sense of organization and punctuality, which are both required skills on the job.

Moreover, a medication aide wishing to work in a specific state must take the certification exam set by that state. While some elements of certification may be standardized, certain states may require some medication aides to be intimately familiar with certain laws that would govern their performance on the job. Passing rates for the Board would also differ for different regions.

What is a medication aide? A medication aide is also called a “medical technician” or “med tech” in some regions. The prime responsibility of a med tech is to assist nurses and doctors in dispensing medication on the job. They differ from pharmacy technicians in that their primary responsibility is tending to inpatients – that is, patients who are required to stay in the hospital in which they are treated.

Certainly many inpatients also rely on the medication dispensed by pharmacies… but the help given by med techs or medication aides is indispensable within hospitals. In the case of late-night medications, when close relatives are no longer allowed to stay and acquire and dispense medication for the sick, medication aides take over. They should be depended on for their ability to stick to a schedule and not get the medications mixed up.

Medication aides are not only called for in hospitals – they are also useful in senior homes, or other places that are badly in need of good medical professionals.

In order to gain proper certification, medication aide must be able to pass the Board for a certified Medication Training Course. But this is not all. An application for medication aide must be filed with the hospital or institution one wishes to be hired in. And, of course, one must be listed on the official Medication Aide Registry of the country in which he or she wishes to work.

Making Use of Certification Boot Camps for Online Certifications

With the advent of the internet, online training has become popular among the masses. Any person who wants a degree or diploma or a certification in any skill would look for online certification courses in that field. It is easy to find one. But how far they are successful in completing such online courses is a question. Many of them fail to complete the online course due to lack of self-discipline in learning and lack of infrastructure and software to work on the needed platform. This is where the IT boot camps or the certification boot camps come to the rescue of the students.

The subjects that are taught in the colleges are taught from a different perspective where you know only the basics. This is not sufficient to get a certification in any skill. The skills needed for certification are more demanding. Most of the colleges do not train the students for that. The IT boot camps are those that the students can look forward to gain that knowledge.

The certification boot camps have the necessary infrastructure, the hardware, and the software needed for the completion of the course. These certification boot camps are conducted within a short duration so that the students gain the necessary skills needed for the certification faster. Since the boot camp is for shorter period the subjects that students learn is also more within that short period. The pressure to learn more is very high and not many can withstand the pressure. If the student is capable of coping with the pressure they are sure to learn more in the certification boot camps.

A student who is aspiring to get certified in any of the IT courses can opt for any of the IT boot camps. There they have the software in which they need to work for that short period to gain some experience in that software. This helps them to face the certification exam confidently. The students can interact with the lecturers and clear the doubts then and there in the boot camps. This is one of the main advantages of IT boot camps. Any student who is enrolling for a certification can also register for any of these boot camps which aid them in completing the certification.

Selecting the right IT boot camps for your certification is another issue. You can talk to the institute that conducts the certification boot camps and know the time frame in which they teach you and the fee structure for the course. If possible you can find some old students who have enrolled with that institute and get their feedback before you register yourself.

Does Your Au Pair Know CPR?

Child Chokes on Carrot and Dies – Does your Au Pair know CPR?

Tragedy struck a Long Island day school Wednesday, March 16, 2009, when police say a two-year-old girl died after choking on a piece of raw carrot.

According to the Carousel Day School in Hicksville, New York,  the girl began to choke after eating a piece of carrot.  Daycare employees tried to perform CPR on her, before rushing the toddler to Nassau University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics one child in the U.S. dies from choking on food every 5 days!

Is your au pair certified in CPR?  Did your agency train your au pair to adequately handle such an emergency if your child started to choke on food?  If your au pair does not have the CPR Certification or the necessary skills required to dislodge food from a child’s throat, it may mean the difference of life or death for your child.

We took a look at the 12 au pair agencies and we found health and safety information on all their sites that confirm all au pairs do receive some training in first aid and CPR. The U.S. Department of State requires that some form of basic training must be provided during the 4-5 day au pair orientation.

We found that only one of the agencies provides the full CPR Core training that results in a CPR Certification!

Let’s take a look at what the agencies claim they provide (not all agencies are listed here as most of them only had one or two sentences regarding the “training” given to the au pairs before they are released to your home):

Au Pair In America

In terms of CPR training, Au Pair in America states their “Orientation includes seminars by American Red Cross (trained) instructors who provide hands-on demonstrations in infant/child CPR and safety.”  How much training is not stated and the au pairs do not receive a CPR Certification.

However, APIA will pay for an Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification for standard au pairs and Child/Adult CPR Certification for Educare au pairs.  The way it works is, your au pair finds a Red Cross training in your town, pays for it (or you do), completes and passes the course, receiving her Certification and APIA will reimburse you.  CPR training costs about $200 and it is well worth the money.

APIA is the only au pair agency that will reimburse your au pair for this training.

Au Pair Care

Au Pair Care has an Au Pair Academy where the au pairs receive “Hands-on American Heart Association CPR & First Aid training.”  They do not provide the CPR Core training that results in a CPR Certificate for the standard or educare au pairs.  They do provide CPR Certification for the au pairs enrolled in the Infant Specialized Program.

Au Pair Care’s Infant Specialized Program Training:

Au Pair Care is the only au pair agency that provides the CPR Core Certification Training,  but only in their Infant Program.

The training “utilizes a hands-on approach to train au pairs in infant safety and caregiving and infant stimulation and development.” AuPairCare Infant Specialized au pairs attend a certification course in infant CPR and First Aid by the American Heart Association.

A spokesperson at Au Pair Care told us they could not guarantee all au pairs will pass the course (approximately 8+ hours training and a formal test), but she did said they have had “great success” with this program and the CPR Certification Training.

“Au pairs also receive instruction from AuPairCare trainers certified in Infant Massage with the Liddle KidzTM Foundation, and instruction from trainers certified in Infant Sign language by Baby Fingers, a leading Infant Sign Language learning organization.”

The Infant Specialized Care Program is a wonderful place to start if you have an infant and are considering au pair childcare – we highly recommend that if you have a child under the age of 22 months, call AuPairCare first!

InterExchange Au Pair

This program provide a “full day on child health and safety with an American Red Cross licensed instructor focusing on:”

First Aid, CPR, and Rescue Breathing

Accident Prevention Awareness

Car, Fire, Toy, Indoor and Outdoor Safety

Basic Child Healthcare

Cultural Care

Upon arrival to the U.S., Cultural Care au pairs “attend an exclusive, four-day training program focused on child development and safety. Our unique Au Pair Training School offers instruction from dedicated and experienced educators in a classroom setting. Small class sizes allow teachers to give au pairs one-to-one attention.”

“What do Cultural Care au pairs learn at the Au Pair Training School?  The Cultural Care Au Pair staff developed the curriculum for the four-day program in collaboration with The Children’s Foundation in Washington, D.C.”

Topics covered include:

Health and Safety in the Home

Child Nutrition

Common Childhood Illnesses

Safety and Emergency Education

Effective Communication

Au Pairs as Role Models

Ages & Stages: Birth to Teenage Years

Age-appropriate Materials and Activities

Building Self-esteem in Children

Behavior Management

We strongly recommend that your au pair complete a CPR and First Aid Certification course so you can have peace of mind knowing, if your child chokes on a piece of carrot, your au pair will jump into action and save the day!

You can find local training courses by visiting the Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org/

Benefits of First Aid certification

While we all hope that we are never in a life threatening situation it is very important to know what to do should one arise.  First Aid Certification as well as CPR certification can provide you with the skills you need to react with confidence in life-threatening situations.  There are several online certification programs that offer certification in a variety of emergency skills.  One important thing to look out for is that the material is up-to-date.  The rules and regulations that govern safety training change fairly regularly and it is important that you are receiving the most up to date training possible.

How long does your certification last?  Well it often depends on what you get certified in.  For example, if you were to get a CPR certification it usually lasts about 2 years.  It is also important to have proof of your First Aid Certification so you should receive some sort of certificate or certification card upon completion of your certification course.  This certificate can be used to show your certification when you apply for jobs that require emergency skills as part of the job requirement.  Even with all this it is a good idea to choose a company with a money back guarantee, so that if for any reason you are not satisfied with the training you receive you can get your money back.  That shows that the training company is confident in their training materials.

If you receive your CPR certification you will learn about a number of things including the Good Samaritan laws, which protect people from liability if they choose to help someone who is injured or ill.  The course will also teach you the different ways to administer CPR depending on if the recipient is an adult, child, or infant.  All this good CPR information is combined with important First Aid Certification information like how to control bleeding, and how to care for a person who has suffered shock.  For example, if you are trying to stop bleeding it is a good idea to apply pressure directly to the wound with a gauze pad, which promotes the coagulation of the blood.

First Aid Certification also teaches you more, like how to care for burns and poisoning.  It is important to soak a burn in cold water and then apply some type of soothing ointment to the burn.  Taking some sort of over-the counter pain reliever is also a good idea.  The CPR certification will teach you how to put someone in the proper recovery position in order to help the person breathe and to drain fluid away from the person’s nose and throat if an unconscious victim were to vomit.

Whether First Aid Certification is something that you want to receive for personal reasons or it is training that you want to provide on a corporate level it is a good idea to keep in mind all your options including the option to receive your certification online.  It is also very easy to receive specialty certification through an online certification program, like CPR certification.  Whether in a business setting or just personal reasons you can be prepared for life-threatening emergency situations.

People, Get Teaching Certificate Programs

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

There are many reasons for teachers to get teaching certificate programs. There are many certificate programs that need qualified teachers. Any job that requires technical training like being an electrician requires certification. Also any job that requires using a specialty vehicle also requires certification. No matter what kind of job a person may have, he or she will probably need certification of some kind. People need to be taught everything from O.S.H.A. standards to CPR.

Many teachers get teaching certificate programs for technical certification because there are so many certificates that people need. There are many different things that a person needs to know when becoming something like an electrician. There are many different aspects and a person needs certification in each one. People get teaching certificate programs so that these electricians can do their jobs. Not just electricians need specialty certificates. Plumbers, carpenters and other workmen need special programs too. Also anyone who wants to do anything with pyrotechnics also needs specific certification. This allows a person to legally work with things that are otherwise taboo. Something many people do not think about is having certification to work with and keep exotic animals. Truly there are many people who get teaching certificate programs out there.

People also get teaching certificate programs in special vehicle use. There are all sorts of vehicles that people use to ship goods, build and destroy. Every different vehicle requires specific training. Truck drivers often go to truck driving school. The teachers get teaching certificate programs in different size rigs for the many students. Also people who work in construction need certification in the many construction vehicles that are used. No one wants to see an untrained person behind the wheel of a wrecking ball. There are also special certificate programs that have to deal with the many types of ships and planes out there. Companies ship their goods in many ways, and for every different way there is a different certification needed.

Certification is not limited to specific fields. Many people also need certification in all sorts of other areas. People get teaching certificate programs in things like first aid, CPR and other work place standards. Most places get teaching certificate programs in O.S.H.A. standards. This is because of how important they are in making sure that everyone in a work place is kept safe. CPR goes along with that in keeping everyone safe. Between CPR and first aid certification, a company can keep many more employees safe. Another more modern certification involves protecting people from blood born pathogens. Because of just how many different certificates there are, people get teaching certificate programs in the work place.

Michigan Teacher Certification: Not So Easy For People Certified In Other States

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Michigan is a very unique state when it comes to teacher certification. Unlike many other states it is impossible to teach in Michigan unless you have a college degree, unlike many states that have different routes for future teachers, Michigan does not. In order to become a teacher there you have to go through and complete a teacher education program, which includes receiving a Michigan teacher certification. Once you have received your Michigan teacher certification it will be valid from 5-6 years, when the sixth year is up it is mandatory for re-certification in order to ensure that nothing is forgotten during the six years that no classes have to be taken.

Also, this ensures that if new things are learned during this time they will be taught to teachers who may have missed learning about them in school. For example, every year new things are learned about teaching children ranging from how to teach them to what to teach them. In addition to being re-certified every six years any teacher who received their degree outside of Michigan will have to go through a review in order to teach in the state of Michigan, this credential review will help professionals go through what you know and will help them pinpoint any differences you have between what you would know if you were taught at a school in Michigan and what you learned at the school you were taught at. If there are big discrepancies between the two teaching methods you will be able to complete any requirements in order to meet the standards of the state of Michigan and be granted a Michigan teacher certification. While you are completing these requirements you may be able to have a temporary teacher authorization baring any huge discrepancies. This will allow you to teach for a year while you are getting taught what you need to know in order to pass for certification in Michigan.

In addition to general knowledge about teaching as well as the subject you are teaching it is mandatory for teachers in Michigan to take courses in abuse as well as CPR and first aid so that if anything were to happen they would know what to do. Although we live in a very safe country there are still chances that something bad may happen and when you are a teacher you not only have to take care of yourself when something happens, but you also have to take care of the entire class of children. If something were to happen while you are in class the children would look to you for advice and support and you would have to lead them, this is why every possible thing is gone through when you are looking For Michigan teacher certification.

Certification Book Studying: Tips to Stay Motivated

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

first aid certification

You will buy yourself a certification book or two, no doubt to study – as most of us do. And you already know they are so chunky it tries the patience of even the most enthusiastic person at times to get through all the material. How do you stay enthusiastic and motivated to keep at the timeframe you set for yourself of when you will finally get your cert? We do want it as soon as possible, don’t we? Having that certification in our hands is the trophy of the hard work we have put in. But having it also means we can now stop studying and enjoy other things!

Recognize reality

Some cert books are easier read than others. Those MS press books are notorious for putting you to sleep but they do contain excellent information. Recognize your level of knowledge and how difficult or easy studying for a particular subject will be. When something is harder to study, do the following tips more often. Don’t feel like you have to just keep reading the certification book even if nothing is sinking in.

Don’t stop studying – just take a break

When I’m studying for a new certification I set a timeframe for myself of when I want to finish it by. Usually 2-3 months of studying (depending of course on the cert and what time I have). I want to finish as soon as possible because I don’t want to have it in the back of my mind. After going home from work, the last thing I really want to do is to study. And most professionals are on a tight time frame.

We have 2-3 hours a night to devote to our studies so make all those hours count. Read your book but when you feel your mind wondering, switch to another form of study. Go to youtube.com and watch what you have been studying. That way you are still allowing the information to sip in. Your mind will welcome the change and your motivation will stay with you. Then go hit the books again.

Read, take notes. Read, take notes

Become active in your reading. When we jot notes down, we tend to remember the material better. Write out full long hand notes or even points in bullet form. Mark things with pencil on the certification book even. Do something different so the material you are reading can stick in your mind.

Do hands-on labs

If the material allows it, do some physical work. Either lab work or even simulators on your computer. Learning something and then doing it, is the best form of studying.

Have fun with practice exams

Practice exams to me are like games. I love them because not only are they fun but a vital studying aid. They help reinforce the material in your mind. They help see the areas you are weak in. The questions that give you a scenario and ask you to find the solution help you see just how the material you are reading can get applied in a real world solution. Yeap they are great.

Switch books or information

No one source is good to pass your exam. Most professionals combine 2-3 study aids. Like you may buy two books or a certification book and a CBT or go to a training school but also buy a book, etc. When you get bored with one book or other study aid, then switch. Or even go to the web and see how the information is worded differently (wikipedia.org is great). Getting a new slant on the information helps a great deal in keeping you motivated to progress through the material.
